Manchester United has appointed Phil Lynch as Chief Executive Officer of Media.

 

The new role will see hi, responsible for overseeing the club’s digital media strategy, as well as the management and operations of MUTV (including the new MUTV app, available in 165 countries around the world), the creation and editorial oversight of the club’s official matchday programme and monthly magazines, as well as the club’s digital media partnerships and direct-to-consumer products.

 

Prior to his time at Manchester United, Phil was the Global Head/Vice-President of Content & Media Partnerships at Yahoo in California, overseeing more than 3,500 content partnerships across all verticals, as well as their digital distribution efforts. 

 

During his tenure he was selected by Variety as one of “Hollywood’s New Leaders” for 2016 and credited with developing Yahoo’s over the top live sports offering via securing broadcast rights and partnerships with the likes of the National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and PGA Tour.

 

Phil’s experience prior to Yahoo saw him as Senior Vice President, digital networks and games for Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

 

Manchester United’s Group Managing Director Richard Arnold said: “Phil’s appointment is an important step in the evolution of our digital strategy. He has a wealth of experience at Yahoo and Sony Digital that will add real value and insight to our thinking.”
