World no1 referee Howard Webb joins Soccerex in Rio

Mon 9th May 2011 | Football Industry Events

Soccerex are delighted to announce that Howard Webb MBE, the World’s leading referee, will be taking part at this year’s Soccerex Global Convention, 26-30 November 2011, which is once again being held in the fabulous city of Rio de Janeiro.

A special panel titled “The Great Football Debate” will include a mix of big name football industry stakeholders including leading journalists, club and business figures, as well as Mr Webb, the referee of last weekend’s crucial fixture between Manchester United and Chelsea, which has all but decided the outcome of this year’s Premier League title. The panel will give their different perspectives on some of the biggest issues affecting global football today.

During the event, Mr Webb – currently number one in FIFA’s World Referee rankings - will also be officiating several legends games as part of the renowned Soccerex Football Festival. The festival is a two-day event taking place at the start of the Global Convention in a purpose-built stadium on Copacabana beach. The event features international football legends, stars of the future, football freestylers and local entertainment.

The 2010 Football Festival saw legends teams from Argentina, Brazil, Holland and England with the Brazilians beating the Dutch in the final to take home the trophy. Players such as Ruud Gullit, Denílson, Jorginho and Romario were all in attendance.

In recent years the festival has attracted other such legendary players as Eric Cantona, Carlos Alberto Torres, Eusebio, Leonardo, Bryan Robson, Phil Thompson, Ossie Ardiles, Lucas Radebe, Ronald de Boer and George Weah.

The Soccerex Global Convention 2011 will consist of an in-depth conference schedule, packed exhibition, a large range of networking and two-day Football Festival all taking place in the host city to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final, Rio de Janeiro.

For further information about this event please call +44 (0)208742 7100 or visit www.soccerex.com/global.
