Northampton Town record rise in league attendances

Thu 12th May 2011 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

Northampton Town Football Club recorded an average of 4,605 supporters per home league game in the season just ended, up from the 4,427 achieved in 2009/10

In addition, the club came second in League 2 for percentage of capacity filled, using 60.1% of available seats throughout the season, just behind Champions Chesterfield who filled 64.4% of their capacity.

"I am delighted with the figures," said Chairman David Cardoza.

"I would like to say a big thank you to our supporters for their loyal backing through what has been a disappointing season. They really turned out in numbers, particularly in the last few weeks, and we will be doing all we can to try and reward them with a successful and exciting season next season.

"The increase in the average attendance is partly down to the success of our Group Tickets scheme that has seen thousands of local youngsters come to Sixfields and enjoy a matchday experience they will never forget.

"I think the increase in average attendance is even more impressive when you consider we lost a couple of matches around Christmas time. One was a Saturday game and one was Boxing Day, and both games had to be re-arranged to a Tuesday night when crowds are always lower."
