The winners of the Stadium Business Awards 2011 were announced last week and 20|20 were awarded the prestigious prize for ‘Project of the Year’ for their most recent design work with Arsenal FC on Club Level at Emirates Stadium.
The glittering awards ceremony took place during the Stadium Business Summit at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium in Spain in front of an audience of more than 220 senior sports industry professionals from around the globe.
Hundreds of nominations from around the world were narrowed down to a shortlist, judged by an independent panel of industry experts, including:
- Alexander V. Atamanenko, CEO, Donbass Arena, Ukraine
- Michael Bolingbroke, COO, Manchester United FC, UK
- Simon Clegg CBE, Chief Executive, Ipswich Town FC, UK
- Ninna Engberg, Managing Director, Stockholm Globe Arenas, Sweden
- David Manica, President, MANICA Architecture, USA
- Peter McKenna, Stadium Director, Croke Park, Ireland
- Patrik Meyer, Managing Director, Commerzbank Arena, Germany
- Chris Overholt, COO, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canada
“The judging panel was amazed this year by the incredible levels of commitment, ingenuity and above all passion behind the delivery of outstanding venues and experiences for fans,” commented chair of the judging panel, Michael Bolingbroke, COO, Manchester United FC.
Club Level was in a tough category against, The Boot Room Sports Café at Anfield, Liverpool FC, the new conferencing and hotel facilities at Ricoh Arena and the Eden Park Redevelopment in New Zealand but was judged the best “for not resting on previous success and taking a new stadium to even greater success... for transforming an under-performing space and creating ‘club within club’ spaces to create unique, intimate experiences which appeal to increasingly diverse customer segments... for creating an environment that immerses fans in the beauty and detail of Arsenal’s rich history”
Jim Thompson, managing director at 20|20, said – “this is a great award for us and Arsenal in recognition of the power of truly customer focused brand experiences within the stadium environment. We have been able to create three levels of hospitality offer which give fans a real choice of match day experience, each space enhances Arsenal’s brand story and brings to life the club in a whole new way.”
20|20 are currently doing further work on Club Level which is due to be completed for the start of the new season.
