Rangers FC Launch Movember Campaign

Tue 1st Nov 2011 | Football Industry Events

Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall and Ian Durrant have joined over 120 Rangers fans in supporting Movember by pledging to grow a moustache to help raise funds for and awareness of men’s health issues.

The Rangers Charity Foundation’s National Charity Partner, The Prostate Cancer Charity, is the principal UK beneficiary of money raised during Movember.

The Rangers Manager and his backroom team posed with fake mos in a bid to show what their final efforts might look like at the end of the month, as they prepare to start growing and grooming their real moustaches from today. (Tuesday 1 November)

Last year, dozens of Rangers fans and staff took on the challenge and raised over £4,000 and this year’s campaign is set to be even bigger, with 3 times the participants poised to begin ‘moustache month’ today.

Rangers Manager Ally McCoist commented: “I am delighted to give my backing to this campaign. Kenny, Ian and I will all grow moustaches in support of Movember and I am sure many of our fans will do the same. The Prostate Cancer Charity will benefit once again from this initiative and I know it will be a huge success.”

Supporters interested in signing up for the Rangers Movember Team can visit the Movember website at www.movember.com.  Fans should select UK and click on the register tab where they can reactivate their account from last year or set up a new account.  They should then select to join the Rangers Movember Team.

Family and friends can follow the progress of participants on-line and enjoy a laugh at the photo galleries, as well as keeping up to date on the Rangers Charity Foundation’s website and Facebook page at www.rangerscharity.org.uk and www.facebook.com/officialrangerscharity

This season, the Foundation is supporting The Prostate Cancer Charity as its National Charity Partner and hopes to raise £20,000 from a range of activities and events to fund the distribution of information for older men with or concerned about prostate cancer, as well as the expansion of the Charity’s network of support groups, including the provision of additional key resources.  The Foundation will also help to advance vital research work in Scotland.

Ann Ferguson, Head of Operations at The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland: said: “We are so grateful to Rangers, Rangers fans and the Rangers Charity Foundation for their hard work, support and generosity. We have no doubt this latest act of support will play a significant role in the ongoing battle for a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer.”
