Darlington FC Terminate Player Contracts

Tue 17th Jan 2012 | Football Club Administration

Darlington Football Club’s future looks increasingly uncertian after the administrator terminated the contracts of the players and manager yesterday.

The club were given an extended deadline on Friday so talks could take place to find a resolution for the club. But a statement released by the administrator yesterday said there was ‘no alternative’ given the club’s financial situation.

"Given the current financial position of the club and, as a consequence of my legal obligations, I have had no alternative but to terminate the contracts of all playing staff and the retained administration staff,”

"Notwithstanding this, there remain parties interested in either injecting funds into the club to enable it to continue operating or acquiring the club.

"Every effort is being made to progress this to try to save the club. However, at this stage I have still not received any formal offers and unless a deal is concluded as a matter of urgency, time will have run out for Darlington Football Club."

The future for club, who were placed into administration for the third time in less than a decade, now looks increasingly uncertain unless adequate resources are made available to keep the club running. Former chairman, Raj Singh had kept the club afloat for as long as he could at the cost of nearly £100,000 per month.

Having invested more than £2.5m in the club since taking ownership in 2009, he told BBC Tees, "I'll walk away, I'm not expecting a penny back.

"I could make things difficult for the administrators but I won't. I want the club to survive, to do well."
