Brighton To Increase AMEX Stadium Capacity

Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club have been granted permission to increase the seating capacity at the AMEX Stadium.

Following a Planning Committee meeting at Brighton & Hove City Council yesterday afternoon the club were given the green light to expand the £93m American Express Community Stadium at Falmer which was officially opened in July 2011.

The club will now increase the stadium’s capacity from its current 22,500 to 30,750 in two phases. Phase one will include an additional 5,000 seats ready for the start of next season (2012/13), with a further 500 ready in December.

Phase two will see the balance of the seats installed next year, 2013, taking capacity to 30,750.

Executive Director Martin Perry expressed his delight at the decision on the club’s official website: "I am delighted at such a show of support by Brighton & Hove City Council. They voted unanimously for the increased capacity but also praised the way in which the Albion manage the transport and parking systems.

"This is a huge win for the Albion but it is a huge win for the City as well. When the work is complete, over 8,000 more supporters will be able to come and support the team and it will deliver another 430 jobs, including 200 during the construction phase, and £7million into the local economy."

Brighton have now began contacting fans on their season ticket waiting list, offering them the opportunity to purchase their season tickets for the 2012/13 season.
