Football Conference Breaks All-Time Attendance Record

Tue 1st May 2012 | Club & Country Competitions

The 2011/12 Blue Square Bet Premier season has comfortably broken the Football Conference’s all-time aggregate attendance record.

During the 46-game regular season, 1,122,466 fans attended the 552 matches, giving an average gate of just over 2,033. The previous best of 1,084,128 was set in the 2009/10 campaign.

“Setting a new attendance record is a testament to the ever-improving quality of teams, players and football in the Blue Square Bet Premier,” said Brian Lee, Chairman of the Football Conference.

“Fans have so much choice when it comes to watching sport so it is very pleasing that more people than ever are coming through the turnstiles.”

The 2011/12 season in English football’s fifth tier saw Fleetwood Town crowned the Blue Square Bet Premier champions and earn the division’s automatic promotion spot. Micky Mellon’s side finished on 103 points, five ahead of runners-up Wrexham.

Alan Alger, Blue Square Bet PR manager, adds: “This has been another memorable season in the Blue Square Bet Premier and it is fantastic that so many supporters were there to enjoy it. After losing out to Fleetwood in the title race Wrexham have another chance in the play-offs, but it will be a hard fought contest. The betting shows there’s almost nothing to choose between the teams.”
