Chester FC to take on Chester City FC in Ciaran Geddes Charity match

Thu 10th May 2012 | Football Industry Events

Following the recent tragic death of Ciaran Geddes, Chester FC will play a Chester City XI on Sunday 13th May, at the Exacta Stadium, with all proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation.

Players from the 2004 Conference Championship winning side will be joined by comedians John Bishop and Jason Manford as well as former players who have also previously starred for Chester City, and will wear specially made shirts thanks to Chester FC’s principal partners, MBNA.

The match which kicks off at 1.00pm will see the current Chester FC side tested by their fans former heroes, and the Club are aiming to help raise funds to help the purchase of defibrillator packs for Ciaran’s school and also the junior football team he played for.

Following the match at 3.45pm, in the Blues Bar at the ground, there will be an auction, where each signed Chester City players’ shirt will be auctioned off. Fans can place a bid ahead of the day by e-mailing media@chesterfc.com with their bid, and contact details.

Former Chester players such as Kevin McIntyre, Phil Bolland, Carl Ruffer, Ben Davies, Michael Twiss, Jamie Heard and Daryl Clare are amongst the players set to appear for the 2004 team that will take on the current Champions. Players from years gone by will also be in the squad, including Billy Stewart, Eddie Bishop, Chris Lightfoot, Jimmy Haarhoff, and Nigel Edwards amongst those taking part.

The Chester City manager for the day is Paul Carden, the Captain that lifted the title back in 2004 and he will be assisted by former Chester team mate and Championship winning goalkeeper Wayne Brown.

The club would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend the event, whether they are football fans, family and friends, or those simply touched by the sad story, to pay tribute to the very short life of Ciaran Geddes.
