World Cup Winner to Present Awards at Grass Roots Football Show

Fri 11th May 2012 | Football Industry Events

World Cup winner and legendary England goalkeeper Gordon Banks OBE will be making a special appearance at this year’s Grass Roots Football Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The former Leicester and Stoke City star, who is widely acclaimed as England’s greatest ever goalkeeper, will be presenting prizes to the winners of the Football League’s Every Player Counts Awards, which is supported by The Football Pools.

In 2009, The Football Pools partnered The Football League Trust to launch the Every Player Counts scheme donating over £2.5 million to extensively grow disability football provision across 48 Football League clubs in England and Wales. The project has significantly increased the opportunities for people with varying disabilities to access sports through their local Football Clubs.

The Every Player Counts project gives sporting opportunities to disabled adults aged 16+ and Banks will make the special presentation on Sunday 27h of May at Europe’s biggest grass roots football show.

Gordon Banks OBE, said; “I am very proud to be associated with The Football League Trust Every Player Counts project and I am looking forward to meeting the award winners at The Grass Roots Football Show.

“The community departments at clubs across the country are doing a fantastic job encouraging participation and the awards are recognition of all the hard work that every single one of them has put in this year.”

Joann Burns, Director of The Grass Roots Football Show, said; “The Every Player Counts Awards were on of the highlights of the show last year and to have a World Cup winner at the event is a huge honour.

“Gordon Banks was named in Pelé’s 125 greatest living footballers which just goes to show you how well he is respected in the football world and our audience is very excited about meeting him.”

The Grass Roots Football Show 2012 is the biggest football event of its kind in Europe and takes place at the NEC in Birmingham between 25th and 27th May.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £6 for under 16’s. Buy your tickets today at http://www.grassrootsfootball.co.uk/tickets/
