Watford Owner Takes Legal Action Over Sky Sports News Claims

Mon 18th Jun 2012 | Legal

Laurence Bassini, owner of Watford Football Club has begun legal proceedings against Sky Sports News.

In an official statement released today, Bassini has confirmed that he has started legal proceedings against the 24-hour sports news channel.

The action comes after Sky Sports News ran stories yesterday suggesting there were problems with the payment of Hornets' staff wages for May.

Bassini said: "Despite the media reports, the staff wages were paid at the end of May.

"In view of these inaccurate reports I have today started proceedings against Sky Sports News."

The Hornets' owner also wanted to clarify reports regarding an emergency board meeting that took place on Friday (June 15).

He stated that although he met with his fellow directors on Friday to discuss an offer he'd received for the club, an emergency board meeting had not been called.
