S&C Slatter Develop 3G Turf for Centre of Excellence

Thu 28th Jun 2012 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

Specialist sports pitch construction contractor S&C Slatter have been chosen to develop the 3G pitches at Poole Town Football Club’s new state of the art stadium, training pitch and community facility.

For Poole Town, Wessex Premier League Champions for three years in succession, promotion to the Southern League has brought about a requirement to provide enhanced stadium facilities to meet FA regulations.

And with a significant proportion of the project funding coming from an environmental trust, GreenFields' revolutionary new MX40 turf has been chosen specifically for its excellent playing quality and its outstanding green credentials.

Plans for a new ground were approved and as part of the scheme a new training and community pitch was specified. The local community welcomed the benefits the shared facilities would bring, especially for local children. The completed facility will be home for a number of teams, not least the Arsenal FC Academy regional centre of excellence, reflecting the high quality of the 3G football turf required.

Close to the Canford Heath Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the new pitch had to be as environmentally friendly as possible. By choosing the new GreenFields MX 40, it gives a higher density turf requiring less infill. This results in a natural look along with an excellent playing surface with exceptional durability. Finally, using environmentally safe and healthy materials means that this new pitch is 100% recyclable.

Local Councillor, Daphne Long, said she, along with many residents, was impressed with the wider community benefit of the scheme. "The football club wants people to use the facilities, which is a big thing for the community and I think it will give a lot to the young people in the area."

In procuring this specialist sports turf construction contract the client undertook a detailed tender process. This exercise highlighted S&C Slatter’s client centred approach to project delivery, their expertise in 3G football turf products and their substantial in-house capability to deliver the works.

Working with the client, S&C Slatter identified a leading edge 3G football turf system that offers the high performance standards required and the green credentials crucial to the project ethos. GreenFields’ MX40 is a truly remarkable 3G artificial grass product, offering woven backing technology and extraordinary vertical memory for the yarn.
