Foundation and The FA team up to fund 9v9 goalposts

Mon 16th Jul 2012 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

The Football Foundation has teamed up with The FA to provide funding towards the installation of 9v9 goalposts as part of The FA’s Youth Development Review, as well as continuing to replace unsafe goalposts.

The FA announced in May that football matches for younger players will be played with smaller teams and on smaller pitches. Gareth Southgate FA Head of Elite Development, said: “These changes are vitally important for the development of young players and the future of football in this country."

New goalposts for the 9v9 format will be a major part of the FAs plans to transform youth football – 9v9 football for Under 11 and Under 12's will be optional for season 2012/13 and mandatory for season 2013/14.

To aid the transition, the FA and the Football Foundation have ringfenced substantial funding towards the cost of this programme and providing the goals required – grants of 50% towards the total cost will be available.

Clubs who apply for the grant will receive written confirmation of the offer of 50% of the cost of the goalposts. The club will then need to order, pay the full cost, and provide the reference number and receipt to the Foundation to redeem their 50% off. Clubs should note that goals purchased before a grant offer is received will not be eligible for funding.

The Football Foundation are now working closely with County FAs across the country to identify the needs and sites that will benefit.
