FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke to open Soccerex Global Convention

Thu 6th Sep 2012 | Football Industry Events

Soccerex has announced that FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke will open the 2012 Soccerex Global Convention, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro from November 24-28.

As secretary general, Valcke is responsible for organising the FIFA World Cup and has played an important role in overseeing Brazil’s preparations for the 2014 tournament. During his latest trip to Brazil he commented that preparations for the tournament were “right on track”.

Valcke will be joined in the opening ceremony by Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president and 2014 local organising committee chairman José Maria Marin and the Brazilian Minister of Sport, Aldo Rebelo.

“I am delighted to be involved with Soccerex again at this year’s Global Convention,” said Valcke. “The event provides an important platform for the industry to get together, discuss best practice and engage with one another.  Brazil is in a special moment with the world’s biggest football event on the horizon and I think it is important that Soccerex are there too.”

Soccerex CEO, Duncan Revie, added: “We are honoured that Jerome will be opening the 17th Soccerex Global Convention. Jerome has been a great supporter of our events and the development of football business worldwide. To have such senior members of FIFA regularly attending our events truly highlights the calibre of Soccerex on the global stage.”

The Soccerex Global Convention is a five day business event consisting of a comprehensive seminar line-up, a number of networking opportunities, a two-day football festival and a packed exhibition, which is already close to selling out.

Held in a purpose-built venue within the Forte de Copacabana, with panoramic views of both the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, the exhibition is a hub for business activity. As one of the main components of the convention it provides a platform for leading suppliers from around the world to showcase the latest industry products and services to delegates.
