AMEX Crowd Sets Attendance and Consumption Records

Brighton and Hove Albion's Friday night game not only set a new Amex attendance record, they consumed a record volume of food and drink.

Seagulls supporters set a new all-time club record in terms of total consumption at a single game, and not only did they smash the previous best, they also set the record for the biggest-ever spend per head at any single match at the Amex.

Supporters ate 12,000 pies and drank 14,000 pints of beer, while a pre-match early bird meal deal contributed to the highest-ever burger sales at the stadium. Fans were also offered 15% off pies after the final whistle.

Chief executive Paul Barber said, "We launched our new early-bird and post-match offers to encourage fans to arrive early and stay later, and these proved extremely popular.

"Fans will be pleased to hear that we will be continuing with these and will have different pre and post-match offers at future games."

Meanwhile Barber was full of praise for the support given by the Albion fans on the record-breaking night, adding, "To have a record crowd, such a fantastic match and to go top of the table made it one of the most special nights yet at the Amex.

"The team was superb and thanks to the fans too, who played their part, as ever. They were in great spirit, good voice and impeccably behaved."

The crowd of 26,594 - the biggest since the 28,800 for the 1983 FA Cup quarter-final with Norwich - beat the 26,467 who packed the Goldstone Ground for the FA Cup tie with Arsenal on 30th January 1988.

It was also the biggest for a league match since Spurs visited the Goldstone in March 1982 for a top-flight fixture.

On the back of the success, bumper followings of more than 2,000 fans are expected for both London fixtures this week, and several sell-outs are predicted at the Amex this season.
