Cambridge Fans Show Racism The Red Card

Mon 1st Oct 2012 | Football Industry Events

Cambridge Fans United, Cambridge City Supporters Trust, Histon Independent Supporters Trust and Unite Against Fascism, Cambridge have teamed up and will be hosting a public meeting at the Cambridge United Supporters Club on Monday 8th October.

Why Football Fans Must Show Racism the Red Card will Luther Blissett talking about his experiences of playing during some of the darkest days in English football and also his work with Kick It Out.

Gary Roberts of Cambridge City along with representatives of Cambridge United and Histon will also be speaking on the night and the evening will showcase the work all three clubs have done in tackling the scourge of racism.

With a recent House of Commons committee report stating that racism remains a “significant problem” in football and the Luis Suarez and John Terry cases this issue remains one all clubs have to consider.

The Supporters Club will be open at 7.00pm for a 7.30 start and fans of all Cambridge clubs are invited to put their differences aside and show a united front to Kick It Out

“Banter is when you have a pop at each other about how you are playing, but when it comes down to somebody’s colour or religion it takes it beyond the pale.

When I started playing I had that sort of thing said to me an awful lot but it was very different times. We hope to think we have moved on.” Luther Blissett
