Fanatix partners with fan blog Empire of the Kop to launch mobile app

fanatix, a social network for sports fans, has partnered with Empire of the Kop, the independent social-blog for Liverpool fans, to produce the first club-specific app on their network.

Empire of the Kop is one of the top ‘social destinations’ for Liverpool FC fans with more than 350,000 Twitter followers. Liverpool fans are now able to access Empire of the Kop’s content, as well as all the other Liverpool content and fixtures available on the fanatix platform, creating a one-stop shop for Liverpool fans on their mobiles.

Empire of the Kop is the latest addition to a growing number of sporting entities that have recently joined the fanatix platform. These include Manchester City FC, ESPN, Paddy Power, William Hill, and, most recently, Tribal Football.

fanatix was founded in 2011 by Will Muirhead to provide fans with a tool to automate content discovery and private messaging around live sport. The service has recently passed the 250,000 download mark, and now has more than 35,000 active daily users.

Prior to forming Fanatix, Will Muirhead founded SportEV at Edinburgh University in 1999. SportEV provided IP video delivery platform solutions and related consultancy services to FIFA, the English Premier League, Serie A, Vodafone, BT and AOL. The Press Association acquired SportEV in 2005.
