Arsenal Twitter Reaches Two Million Followers

Arsenal Football Club has become the first Premier League side to reach the landmark figure of two million followers for its official Twitter account, @Arsenal.
Ranked fourth most popular sport account in the world*, the platform has been a key way for supporters around the globe to keep in touch with the north London club's day to day activities but also interacting directly with players and fans alike.
Since its launch in 2009, the Gunners have tweeted team news, links to exclusive content and responded to supporter comments in over 13,000 tweets. With a constant flow of information provided, the official account of the Club has steadily increased in popularity, with one million followers accrued in the last year.
To drive dialogue and engagement with supporters both domestically and overseas, @Arsenal has hosted Twitter Takeover every three weeks which allows fans to put their questions straight to first team stars.
The feature - highly commended at the Football Business Awards recently - regularly trends number one globally and had over 14,000 uses of the hashtag in one hour during the last session in late November. A newly launched Twitter Quiz each Tuesday at noon will also drive activity and Arsenal debate on the social media platform.
Since the increase in engagement activity with followers, the @Arsenal account has moved from 8% of fans re-tweeted content to 60% in 2012. The popularity is reflected with the #Arsenal hashtag becoming the second most popular in English language in 2012 to date*.
The Gunners have an in house team producing exclusive and diverse content for its online channels and driving interaction with its supporters. The Club's official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Arsenal has in excess of 12million 'likes', while its official website www.Arsenal.com - voted Best Sports site in Website of the Year last month - had four million unique visitors in September 2012.
