Aston Villa Launch ‘One in a Million’ Facebook Campaign

Fri 22nd Feb 2013 | Marketing & PR

Aston Villa Launch ‘One in a Million’ campaign to celebrate passing the one million follower mark on their official Facebook page.

In passing this milestone, the official Aston Villa Facebook page – www.facebook.com/avfcofficial becomes only the seventh football club page in the UK to reach that number.

The ‘One in a Million’ campaign will bring a fan to Villa Park from anywhere in the world to experience the matchday atmosphere of Premier League game.

The official Facebook page, launched in April 2010, has attracted followers from all over the world, illustrated by the fact that nearly 80% of those subscribed to the page come from outside the UK.

The page has grown almost exponentially since being launched reaching 100,000 likes by January 2011 and by the end of the year had more than doubled to around 350,000. That rate of growth continued in 2012, with 500,000 more fans subscribing to updates from the Club.

The page is followed by fans from all over the world speaking over 30 dialects, including Spanish, Arabic, Thai and Mandarin. There are 275,000 fans in Europe, with the largest delegations outside of the UK being Ireland – home to Shay Given and Richard Dunne among others in the current squad as well as legends such as Paul McGrath – Bulgaria, the home of Club captain Stiliyan Petrov, Italy, Spain and Sweden.

There were spikes in followers from Belgium (3,000) and the Netherlands (2,000) this summer when Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar joined the Club, showing the impact that player acquisitions can have on the page and the worldwide fanbase of the Club.

To celebrate the milestone, the Club has launched the ‘One in a Million’ campaign, with the winner being flown to Birmingham to visit Villa Park for the Barclays Premier League home game against Liverpool on March 31. Five runners-up will receive a 2012-13 away shirt. Entrants can be from anywhere in the world, and all those who enter will win 14 days free on AVTV.

The competition details can be found at http://fb.st/sqyz5.
