Supporters Direct Chair welcomes Pompey Trust to Griffin Park

Fri 12th Apr 2013 | Clubs Ownership

Chair of Supporters Direct, Brian Burgess, will welcome Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust Chair Ashley Brown and Ian McInnes, soon to be Chairman of Portsmouth FC, to Griffin Park this Saturday.

The match comes at the end of a week where the Pompey Supporters’ Trust finally were given the green light to take the club into community ownership after a protracted legal battle led by administrators BDO.

Brian Burgess said: “It's a real privilege for me to be welcoming the Pompey Trust and Ian McInnes to Griffin Park at the end of a week when they've been given the go ahead for the historic take over their great club.

“The effort and commitment shown by the fans and the wider community of the city has been immense. I know from the countless messages we've received that it's inspired and captured the imagination of fans across the country.”

Ashley Brown, Chairman of the PST, added: “The backing of Supporters Direct has been instrumental in getting us to the point where we are in a position to take control of Pompey. It is an inspirational story for other clubs and we are looking forward to working with SD in the future to spread their message that community engagement in football clubs is the best way to ensure a healthy and sustainable sport going forward.

“Brian's experiences at Brentford, with Bees' United, and the hybrid ownership model they created at Griffin Park, will be invaluable for us to learn from, and we are delighted the quirk of the fixture list means they will be our first opponents after this momentous decision in the High Court this week.”
