Birmingham City announce E-cigarette brand Nicolites as 2013/14 shirt sponsor

Fri 14th Jun 2013 | Football Sponsorship

Birmingham City have announced leading electronic cigarette company Nicolites as their new principal partner for the 2013/14 season.

As part of the major sponsorship agreement, the Birmingham-based firm’s logo will adorn Blues’ first-team and adult replica shirts for the forthcoming Championship campaign.

The club have also confirmed that the link with last season’s official charity partner, Help Harry Help Others, will continue.

To further this partnership, Nicolites has kindly agreed to allow Help Harry Help Others to carry their colourful logo on the front of all junior, infant and baby shirts for the 2013/14 campaign. It will also feature on the Blues Academy’s playing kit.

Nicolites is the UK’s largest brand of electronic cigarettes, stocked by a large number of national retailers, including Tesco, ASDA, Superdrug, Co-op, WH Smiths, Martin McColls and over 10,000 independent pharmacies and convenience stores. E-cigarettes are designed to look and feel like real cigarettes, but are battery-powered products containing liquid nicotine, which is inhaled as a vapour. They contain no tobacco and do not burn, not exposing users to tar and other carcinogens found in normal cigarettes.

In 2012, Nicolites converted 400,000 smokers to e-cigarettes, replacing 140 million tobacco cigarettes with e-cigarettes. In 2013 those figures are expected to be many times higher.

Nicolites managing director Nikhil Nathwani said: “As a Birmingham-based company we are proud to be able to support Birmingham City FC as the club and fans look forward to a successful season both on and off the pitch. We have grown our business in the city, invested in the region and created jobs. This new partnership demonstrates our commitment to the West Midlands region and to one of its largest football clubs.

“We are also very pleased to be joining forces with young Harry Moseley’s mother Georgie and the Help Harry Help Others charity. It is a wonderful Birmingham-based charity first launched by brave Harry as he battled cancer.

“We are keen to ensure that our products are in no way targeting young children. Our products are for adults that already smoke, who are looking for a tobacco free alternative. As a result we are delighted to be able to donate the space to the charity in order to promote all its good work helping young people and families hit by the disease.”

Ian Dutton, Blues’ head of commercial, said: "We are delighted to have secured an outstanding principal partnership with one of the most successful Birmingham-based businesses in recent years.

"Although they are a national brand stocking in major retail outlets, it is quite clear that Birmingham and the surrounding Midlands area is very much still at the forefront of their minds. This is proven by the wonderful gesture of donating part of their inventory to the club's official charity, Help Harry Help Others, a local cause which is very much at the heart of all Blues fans and beyond.

"Nikhil and his team are very passionate, professional and friendly and you can clearly see why they have been so successful over recent years. They are now looking to take their business to the next level by using our fantastic club as a platform for their next marketing campaign. We look forward to the club being part of what is already a wonderful success story for many years to come."

Georgie Moseley from Help Harry Help Others said: “We are very grateful to Nicolites for their kind gesture in allowing the Help Harry Help Others logo to be carried on the front of Blues’ junior, infant, baby and academy shirts during the 2013/14 season.

“I’m really looking forward to building on the foundation of all of the fantastic work that was done between HHHO and Birmingham City last season. We have a superb relationship with the football club and it’s clear that this was well received by the Blues supporters. Long may that continue.”

Full details on Blues’ 2013/14 home and away kits will be announced via bcfc.com in due course. To find out more about the club’s new principal partner, visit: http://www.nicolitesonline.co.uk.
