Bristol City FC Makes Shock ‘Signing’!

A rarity for English football, Bristol City Football Club has announced that it will be ‘signing’ a fan for the 2013/14 season.

Following a number of new signings from clubs including Arsenal and Swindon, City is now looking closer to home for talent by rewarding one die-hard fan with a unique experience to be part of the ‘official squad’.

One lucky season-ticket holder will have their very own squad number and be part of selective team activity such as the official team photo for the 2013/14 season, courtesy of sponsor Blackthorn Cider.

The innovative initiative, by Blackthorn Cider, is part of a wider push by the West Country manufacturer and the Club to increase their fan engagement ahead of the new season.

Kevin Smith, Commercial Director said: “Fan engagement has been at the top of our agenda for some time now and we felt this opportunity is another step in the right direction.”

Any fan over the age of 18 who signs up for a season ticket between Thursday 30th May and Friday 28th June will automatically be entered into the ‘Win a Squad Number with Blackthorn’ draw.

Andy Cross, marketing manager of Blackthorn Cider, who is running the initiative as part of its renewed sponsorship of Bristol City, said:

“Football is about the fans, and we want to bring the supporters closer to the game and the team that they love than ever before. Blackthorn has its roots in the South West and is dedicated to promoting sporting excellence in the region, from grassroots to the biggest local clubs.”

Blackthorn Cider signed as the principal sponsor of Bristol’s three biggest sporting clubs for the coming season; Bristol City Football, Bristol Rovers Football Club and Bristol Rugby Club, making it the biggest supporter of sport in Bristol.
