Unity Trust Bank Scores A Win With FC United of Manchester

Thu 27th Jun 2013 | Football Sponsorship

Unity Trust Bank, the specialist bank for the social economy sector, is set to provide banking services to FC United, the community owned football club based in Manchester.

The bank is providing FC United of Manchester with day-to-day transactional banking services, a deposit account and a development fund account for the construction of its new community stadium.

Margaret Porter, Unity Trust Bank Relationship Manager for the North West, said: “Unity Trust Bank has social values at its heart. As a major provider of sustainable finance to organisations working hard to deliver social change and economic development in their communities, we welcome FC United to the bank.

“The co-operative model employed by FC United has proved a great success and we look forward to providing excellent customer service to the club as it develops its new community football ground in Moston.”

Andy Walsh, General Manager of FC United, said: “We are really pleased to be joining Unity Trust Bank. Both the bank and FC United aim to put social change, social benefit and community involvement at the heart of what they do.

“Because of the shared ethos and values it makes great sense to bank with an organisation that is so socially focused. Unity also offers a competitive solution for our banking needs, and a great range of account services. Changing banks has been very easy, with Unity staff being really responsive and helpful throughout the process.

“FC United is proud to be a fan owned football club and we believe passionately that all football clubs should be run by their own fans. We aim to change the way that football is owned and run, putting supporters at the centre of everything. We aim to show, by example, how this can work in practice by creating a sustainable, successful, fan-owned, democratic football club that creates real and lasting benefits to its members and local communities.”

Margaret Porter continued: “We would urge other co-operative and social economy organisations wanting to set up day-to-day banking and loan facilities that fit with their socially responsible aims to consider the benefits of banking with Unity. We are open for business and want to ensure we can help support real social impact in local communities.”

Unity Trust Bank is focused on delivering services for charities, social enterprises, town and parish councils, Community Development Finance Institutions, housing associations and trade unions.
