Fri 28th Jun 2013 | IT & Technology
Celtic are set to install one of the most technologically advanced wi-fi networks available in any sports stadia in the world.
Following a comprehensive survey of Celtic’s Season Ticket Holders, the club has made a commitment to improve the matchday experience for the forth coming season.
Celtic has teamed up with Sports Revolution, the sports media and digital marketing agency, and Cisco, to bring intelligent, high-density Wi-Fi to Celtic Park through Cisco’s Connected Stadium Wi-Fi.
Every Celtic supporter will be able to access the new Wi-Fi network through their smartphones and tablets, whether on the stadium concourses, in the hospitality lounges or in the comfort of their own seats and will find that their matchday experience at Celtic Park is significantly enhanced.
High speed wireless Internet will give fans access to a range of content and the ability to instantly share content from memorable Celtic Park experiences with friends, family and fellow Celtic fans across the world.
Sports Revolution are also working with Celtic to develop an exclusive app called ‘CelticLive’ that fans will be able to download to their smartphones from early in the 2013/14 season.
The app, built on Sports Revolution’s StadiumLive platform, will give users the ability to view and interact with a wide range of relevant and engaging club content, specifically designed to enhance matchday at Celtic Park.
Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell said: “We are delighted to be bringing true hi-density Wi-Fi to our entire ground. Celtic is committed to delivering the best matchday experience possible for our supporters and that commitment requires to stay at the forefront of technological advances.
“The recent feedback we received from Season Ticket holders stated that Wi-Fi was a service supporters were keen to see introduced. We are delighted to be able to give our fans something of real value to add further enjoyment to every visit to Celtic Park
“Our partnership with Sports Revolution and Cisco, coupled with other developments currently progressing around Celtic Park, means that the matchday experience will be second to none.”
Phil Smith, CEO of Cisco, UK and Ireland said: “Cisco is all about building connections. Celtic fans expect premier Internet connectivity, so we are thrilled that Cisco, Sports Revolution and Celtic are providing them with a media-rich environment and more interactive experience.
“With Cisco Connected Sports solutions, Celtic fans can now get real-time, relevant information at their finger-tips and share match-day thrills without worrying about mobile connection issues.”
Vange Kourentis, Group Commercial Director, Sports Revolution, added: “We are proud to be working with Celtic Football Club on the installation of high-density Wi-Fi in one of sports’ most famous stadiums.
“Cisco is the only network provider that has proven experience of installing Wi-Fi networks on such a large scale in sports stadia.
“After two years of extensive research and development with Cisco, we are confident that the technology will significantly enhance Celtic fans’ matchday experience through visual technologies and social media while also unlocking important commercial value for the club, its sponsors and rights holders.
“We look forward to launching the Wi-Fi network at Celtic in the coming season with one of the premier clubs in world football.”
Work is well underway within Celtic Park on installing all of the technological components needed to have the new system in place as early in the 2013/14 season as possible.
