New 3G Pitch For Chelmsford Grassroots Clubs

Thu 11th Jul 2013 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

Grassroots sport in Chelmsford received a significant boost when a new third generation (3G) pitch, funded by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity, was opened at Moulsham High School.

The ‘Football Fun Day’, included tournaments between the school's partner club youth teams – Galleywood Youth FC, Writtle Minors and Springfield Juniors – as well as matches between ex-Moulsham students versus a staff team and ‘Partner Club Vets’ taking on a celebrity team, including former Chelsea FC players.

The new pitch will allow Moulsham High School to utilise the pitch for 11-a-side, 9-a-side and 7-a-side matches during school time. The pitch will also be used by partner clubs, including Galleywood Youth FC, Galleywood FC and Springfield FC, and will be available for external hire.

The club worked in partnership with Essex FA to secure a £323,017 grant from the Football Foundation. Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England), the Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity.

Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 9,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “It is so rewarding to see this new facility completed and ready for use by the local community. Alongside the Essex FA, Moulsham High School has worked extremely hard to ensure this project has come to fruition and deserve great credit for its endeavours.

“This project in Chelmsford is a wonderful example of what the Football Foundation is doing right across the country. Foundation investment is helping to transform the national inventory of facilities that supports the grassroots game in this country, and thanks must go to our funding partners, the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England) for their crucial and generous financial support, without which none of this would be possible.”
