Commercialising African Football Leagues The Hot Topic At Soccerex

Thu 12th Sep 2013 | Football Industry Events

Domestic leagues are the bedrock of football in any country, and commercial activity is central to their development.

The need to commercialise the game will be at the forefront of this year’s Soccerex African Forum with Saer Seck, President, Senegal Professional Football League, Jack Oguda, CEO, Kenyan Premier League and Stanley Matthews Sports & Commercial Director for Africa, SuperSport, all speaking on the important subject in Durban, 1-2 October.

As heads of their respective leagues, Saer and Jack will look at the different strategies they have taken and what other leagues can do to help commercialise their individual products as well as differentiate themselves in order to attract relevant domestic and international sponsors.

As Africa’s leading sporting broadcaster SuperSport play an important role in providing coverage for multiple African leagues, which allows them to increase their fan bases and attract sponsors. Stanley will be able to provide a direct analysis of how SuperSport work in partnership with a variety of leagues across Africa who face separate challenges in their aims to a produce a commercially viable league.

Other leagues in attendance at the Forum will be the English Premier League, South African Premier Soccer League, Nigerian Premier Football League, Premier Soccer League of Zimbabwe, Zambian Premier League and Botswana Premier League, creating an unrivalled networking and learning platform for the development of league football in Africa.

Jack Oguda commented: “League commercialisation is very important to the success of football in Africa, and this event provides us with the platform to raise the key issues to achieve that success.  I’m looking forward to attending once again and speaking alongside my counterparts to help build on the success of last year’s event.”

The Soccerex African Forum will bring together 1,000 senior football decision makers together with businesses from across the continent and the world for two days of unrivalled learning, networking and business opportunities to unite the business of football in Africa.
