Lindley Group awarded SRA One Star Sustainability Champion status

The Lindley Group – one of the first two operators to sign up to the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s (SRA) contract catering model membership scheme which was launched last year – has achieved  One Star Sustainability Champion status under the SRA’s Sustainability Rating for hospitality businesses.

The SRA Sustainability Rating measures a wide range of criteria covering 14 areas of sustainability across three key pillars: Sourcing, Society and Environment.  The SRA’s assessment of The Lindley Group’s business highlights its excellent initiatives in Society, such as extensive work with charities, local communities – in particular with school and youth groups at some of its sites, along with generous staff benefits in relation to childcare. The Lindley Group’s approach to promoting a healthy lifestyle, providing cooking demonstrations to University students, and its work with schools to raise awareness about growing produce is also commended in the rating.

Under the Environment pillar, the SRA observes that the business has excellent practices in place to manage a large supply chain, ensuring that deliveries are more efficient and established plans to backhaul waste mean that no vehicles run empty; and that good practices are in place around purchasing sustainable Workplace Resources.

Good practices were observed in Local and Seasonal Sourcing and within this pillar, a company-wide policy to purchase free range eggs and almost exclusively serving Rainforest Alliance teas is commended by the SRA.

Anna Standen, The Lindley Group’s Corporate & Social Responsibility Manager who is responsible for developing an holistic approach to environmental, community, health & wellbeing policies across all aspects of the business which currently spans 48 sites* in sports stadia, arts, heritage and visitor attraction sectors, says:  “Becoming one of the first two contract caterers to join the SRA was an external reinforcement of our commitment to operating The Lindley Group business in a sustainable and an environmentally and socially responsible manner. We were keen to be at the forefront of an initiative which enables contract caterers to benchmark their operation against industry best practice whilst identifying areas where further improvements can be made and providing practical advice and guidance on how this can be achieved.

“We are proud to have been accredited as One Star Sustainability Champions and are now aiming to have each of our sites individually accredited whilst working towards achieving Two Star Sustainability Champion status for the Group as a whole.”
