Finalists announced for the Northwest Football Awards 2013
Tue 17th Sep 2013 | Football Industry Events
Three of England’s top stars have turned the Northwest Football Awards’ (NWFA) historic women’s player of the year trophy into a Merseyside derby.
Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner lines up against Everton pair, Toni Duggan and Nikita Parris, for the final result at Lancashire Cricket Club on November 4.
Defender Bonner and striker Duggan, both 22, were team mates when England won the 2009 European Under 19 Championship and again this summer at the senior Euros in Sweden. Parris is the baby of the trio but destined for a bright future.
The trio have been shortlisted following a meeting of the 12-strong judging panel including senior representatives from the PFA, the LMA, the Football Foundation, the BBC and FC Business
While the judging panel has the huge task of deciding on the finalists and winners for many of the categories, there are plenty of key awards still be to won including player of the year trophies in the: Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and Conference plus the Rising Star accolade.
Nominations to succeed Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel as Premier League winner have proved controversial with Luis Suarez, Robin Van Persie and Vincent Kompany all excluded.
But with the nominations being received directly from the football clubs themselves, Leighton Baines (Everton), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Shaun Maloney (Wigan Athletic) and Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City) are in the running. Fans are urged to cast their votes for their Payers of the Year at http://www.northwestfootballawards.com/voting2013 – voting closes on 4th October.
A full list of finalists and categories can be found at the official NWFA website at www.northwestfootballawards.com and is also listed below.
The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) will once again be the venue for the prestigious awards’ evening, with broadcaster Dan Walker hosting proceedings for a second successive season.
The NWFA is one of the must attend events on the football calendar. And if you thought last year was good, 2013 promises to be the best yet.
Whether it is on the pitch or in the boardroom, the NWFA recognises the region’s finest contributors to the beautiful game. And LCCC on 4th November will be the place to rub shoulders with football royalty.
