City Hot-Shot Aiming For Awards Success

Thu 17th Oct 2013 | Football Industry Events

Sharp shooter Sergio Aguero has sights set on winning Goal of the Year at the Northwest Football Awards for a second successive season.

But Manchester City's Argentine ace faces tough competition to repeat his victory of 2012 for 'that' goal against QPR to clinch the Premier League.

Aguero is short listed for his superb finish in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium back in February.

However, five other contenders line-up against the 'holder' at the annual Awards' night at Lancashire Cricket Club's The Point Conference Centre on November 4. Guests will be asked to vote for their favourite strike with the winning goal announced on the night by Awards' host and BBC TV's Football Focus host, Dan Walker.

Opposing Aguero are: Manchester United's Robin Van Persie, Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge, Leighton Baines of Everton, Burnley's Danny Ings and Oldham's Cristian Montano.

Van Persie is listed for a left foot volley in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa that clinched a record extending 20th Premier League crown for the Reds.

Villa were on the receiving end again when Sturridge strolled through their defence to net a brilliant solo effort back in August.

Everton and England left back Baines cracked in a long range free kick against Newcastle at Goodison Park last season to earn his nomination.

Championship goal machine, Ings, gate crashed the Premier League hot shots with his own special in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest back in September.

And last by no means least, because it's a bit tasty, Colombian Montano's box to box effort in a 4-3 success at Stevenage at the start of the current campaign.

The Northwest Football Awards is one of the must attend events on the football calendar. Whether it is on the pitch or in the boardroom, the NWFA recognises the region’s finest contributors to the beautiful game.
