Stockport County Chairman Steps Down

Mon 25th Nov 2013 | Clubs Ownership

Stockport County chairman, Lord Peter Snape has stood down from his position at the club and resigned from the Board with immediate effect.

The former railwayman, Lord Snape, 71, said in a statement released by the club, “This has been a difficult decision to make and I am very sad to be stepping down, but I feel the time is right for someone else to come forward and try to bring some long term stability to the club.  I made my decision last week and informed the rest of the Board on Friday.

“I wish to thank the staff, the Board of Directors and the fans who have supported me over the last two and a half years.  It has been a difficult time at Stockport County since dropping out of the Football League, but this feels like the right time for me to step aside.

“Despite our difficulties, I am very honoured to have been able to lead the club that I have supported all my life, and I will always be a County fan first and foremost.”

Speaking of his departure, Chief Executive Ryan McKnight, said, “We are very grateful to Lord Snape for his leadership during these recent difficult years at Stockport County.  He has been a County fan for more than six decades and I know how much it has meant to him to lead his hometown club.

“The search now begins for a new chairman who can take the club forward and there is obviously an opportunity to link this position to new financial investment.  We have no plans to appoint an interim chairman.”

Any further developments will be communicated to supporters first via the official website.
