Back To The Beach For Arena Group

Harlequin – part of Arena Group – created the ultimate temporary beach soccer stadium for the SAMSUNG Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup as it headed to Dubai’s International Marine Club, 19-23 November 2013.

Harlequin constructed the 2,500 seat temporary demountable stadium configured into four grandstands, giving perfect views of the pitch.

Working closely with client Dubai Sports Council, Harlequin was in charge of the full overlay management, encompassing every temporary element including all back-of-house structures, lighting, changing rooms, pitch lighting for HDTV, branding and security. 

This was the first time the company has supplied the event, which is in its third year.  Harlequin won the contract following the success of Arena Group’s other beach stadium installations; the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 qualifier on Qatar’s iconic Katara Beach in January, and last year’s London 2012 Olympic beach volleyball.

Paul Berger, CEO Arena Group Middle East & Asia, commented: “Sustainable infrastructure is a necessity for a growing sport like beach soccer. Temporary overlay is the ideal solution, ensuring that the tournament can offer the best facilities and experience to its spectators and players without the high financial outlay of a permanent build.

“Almost every beach soccer venue at the moment is temporary and FIFA’s establishment of guidelines for these temporary stadium builds has definitely helped move the sport forward. With FIFA’s involvement beach soccer is only likely to continue to garner international interest, and we are delighted to be involved in delivering the highest-quality experience to its fans.” 

The SAMSUNG Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup is an annual event running until 2017, as a partnership between the Dubai Sports Council and Beach Soccer World Wide (BSWW).
