Street League Heading For Birmingham And Leeds

Wed 5th Feb 2014 | Football Industry Events

Street League, the national charity which changes lives through football, has announced plans to open in five new areas of the UK over the next year, including Birmingham and Leeds.

The charity provides an award-winning, eight-week football and education programme for unemployed young people aged between 16 and 25.

Currently 81% of graduates from the Street League Academy progress into work, training or education.

Over the last two years, Street League has expanded from three to 10 regions across the UK, with operations centres in South and North London, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Tees Valley, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Inverclyde and Edinburgh.

Recruitment has now begun for new staff as the charity prepares to open in Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Ayrshire, with new centres in Leeds and Dundee to follow over the next 12 months. Other areas of the UK are also under consideration for the future.

Matt Stevenson-Dodd, Chief Executive of Street League, said: “The opportunity to support even more young people across the country with our football and employability programme is fantastic.

“Long-term youth unemployment can have a devastating effect on a young person, whether you consider the effects on physical or mental health, or their ambition to become a responsible and self-sustaining member of society.

“Opening in these new regions will allow us to support and progress more young people living in some of the most challenging communities in the UK directly into work and training.”
