Deputy Chairman Steps Down At Grantham
Mon 3rd Mar 2014 | Football Club Management
Grantham Town’s longest-serving Director and Deputy Chairman Darron Quinn has resigned.
The Evo-Stik Northern Premier Premier Division side announced his departure on Saturday with Quinn citing new business interests as his reason for stepping down as he can no longer afford to play a full role at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium.
Quinn had been associated with the Lincolnshire outfit for more than 15 years. He was also Chairman prior to the appointment of Steve Boam before taking the Deputy Chairman’s role.
Quinn said: "I have to give this new business investment my total 100 per cent commitment – I cannot do otherwise. It is a decision which has been very difficult for me, because I love this football club – it has been a big thing in my life for years.
"To be a Director at Grantham is a demanding job in itself – I have been part of a close-knit hardworking team and I will miss it. I sincerely hope the club goes from strength to strength."
Grantham Town Chairman, Pete Railton said, "This has come as a shock to us because Darron has been at the centre of our club for such a long time. However we understand and totally accept his reasons for leaving – his livelihood and his family have to come first.
"His drive, enthusiasm, good humour and common sense approach will be greatly missed and hard to replace. Nobody has done more for the club in my time here."
GTFC President Roger Booth, himself a past Chairman, also paid tribute to Quinn adding, "I and everybody at this club will miss Darron Quinn. He is what it says on the tin – he says what he thinks and he does what he says he will do. He has done just about every job for this club except play football. He will be welcome back anytime."
