Newcastle United Relaunch Twitter Account

Mon 10th Mar 2014 | IT & Technology

Newcastle United's official Twitter account has been relaunched in a bid to bring supporters a much-improved service.

The revamp will see a new, simpler name of @NUFC used to bring fans news from both on and off the pitch.

Newcastle have often been criticised for its lack of communication with fans. The relaunch of the club’s Twitter service will give fans access to all areas of the club, from the first team, through to the under-21s and Academy, as well as the Newcastle United Foundation.

The service is ran by Managing Editor, Anthony Marshall, PR and Supporter Liaison Manager, Lee Marshall and Digital Editor, Dan King, and will aim to bring fans an in-depth, comprehensive coverage of the club.

Newcastle’s Twitter account currently has over 352,000 followers, the seventh largest Twitter following of Premier League clubs according to sportsocial.nineteeneightyfour.co

Matt Briggs, consultant for NineteenEightyFour said, "Over the past few weeks there has been a noticeable and welcome change in the way the club have approached Twitter, with more effort going into creating interesting and relevant content.

"Prior to this the social media output was more akin to a poorly timed sales pitch which made supporters feel like all that mattered was their wallets.

"The relaunch suggests that Newcastle's recent strategy has proved more fruitful than their previous unsubtle attempts to get followers through the club's online store. The early signs are promising however the club needs to continue down this path to develop relationships with supporters and rebuild trust."
