BT City Square To Host UK’s Leading Football Festival

At a press conference today at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Soccerex confirmed BT City Square as the venue for the Soccerex Football Festival, the kick-off for the world’s biggest football business event, the Soccerex Global Convention, taking place on 6-10 September in Manchester.
Joining Soccerex CEO Duncan Revie at the press conference was Bernard Priest, Deputy Leader, Manchester City Council, Danny Wilson, Director of Sales, Services and Operations, Manchester City Football Club, Louis Saha, former Manchester United and France striker and co-founder of AXIS 10 Sports Consulting Group, David Davies former Executive Director of The FA and Manchester City legend Mike Summerbee.
After 9 years on the road, taking in unique settings such as the Jumeirah Beach under the Burj Al Arab, Nelson Mandela Square and Copacabana Beach, the Soccerex Football Festival will be held in another purpose-built arena in the BT City Square at the Etihad Stadium, one of the industry’s foremost pre-game activation areas. The press conference also saw the announcement of Louis Saha as the first legend to sign up for the Festival and with 111 goals in all competitions within English football, Saha is sure to be one of the festival’s standout performers.
After only retiring late last year, Saha has made the transition to the business side of the game through the launch of Axis 10 Sports Consulting Group, which provides high-quality business solutions for football clubs, agents and players.
More than just a legends tournament, the Festival is also used as a vehicle for social engagement projects which will provide a number of volunteering opportunities for local schools and communities and will see the Manchester United Foundation and City in the Community heavily involved.
The Global Convention is expected to attract 14,000 delegates over its four-year stay in Manchester and is estimated to generate £23 million as direct economic impact, with a further £6.4 million as media profile. It will continue to support the 21,800 full time jobs reliant on the conference/business tourism sector and support the estimated £330 million per season football provides to Greater Manchester’s economy.
Supporting the economy and integrating Manchester’s unique sporting venues into the Global Convention was always a big part of Soccerex’s plans. Starting with the Festival at BT City Square, the Convention will host social evenings at Manchester United’s world-famous Old Trafford stadium and at the National Football Museum, the world’s greatest football collection, with over 140,000 items.
Soccerex CEO Duncan Revie said: “Manchester is one of the world’s leading footballing cities, the football club capital of the world if you will, and is the ideal location for our event.

"I have long had an affinity with Manchester; apart from being the place of my birth, the City played a significant role in my Dad’s football career, winning the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year in 1955 and the FA Cup in 1956 whilst playing for Manchester City and also receiving invaluable advice from the legendary Sir Matt Busby at the start of his fledging managerial career.”
The Convention kicks off with the Football Festival on 6-7 September and has already attracted a senior line-up of attendees for the conference starting on Monday 8th September including FIFA President Joseph Blatter, FIFA Vice-President Jim Boyce, British Olympic Association Chairman Lord Coe, RFU CEO Ian Ritchie and England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
A packed international exhibition and a programme of networking and social events complete the schedule for what is widely acknowledged as the world’s leading football business event.
