London FA To Host Grassroots Day

Thu 1st May 2014 | Football Industry Events

The London FA are holding a day to showcase the great work that goes on across the capital and provide support and training opportunities across a range of topics relevant to the grassroots game.

The event will take place on Saturday the 31st of May at Sporting Club Thamesmead, and will run from 10am until 4pm. The cost of attending the day is £10, which includes entry into the workshops and lunch.

The workshops taking place on the day are focused around the following areas and topics within grassroots football:

Challenging Your Coaching Culture: The delivery of the psychological and social quadrant of the 4 corner model is an area everyone needs to work and improve on. In this workshop Dan Abrahams will be introducing you to some key concepts from this area that will not only challenge the way you currently coach, but also provide you with some simple tools, techniques and underpinning philosophies to help you develop your players. Topics covered will include performance confidence, talent development, communication and focus.

Coaching Practices with Multiple Outcomes: Explore how practices can be designed to involve players executing more than one technique/skill within the same practice setup.  This session will be delivered by The FA Skills coaches for London.

Understanding Your Club’s Finances: It is vital that every club leader has a basic understanding of their club’s figures and knows enough to ask questions, get answers and make informed decisions using the information provided.  It is also in your club’s best interests that other members understand them as well.  Workshop will include club accounts, cash flow, budgeting and effectively communicating your club’s finances.

Refereeing Workshop: 10 Yards – How to manage it: What impact does a correct position make on a decision?  What impact does being too close to play have on your decision making?  How do you get into the correct position?  What is 10 yards?  This is a practical workshop to help develop your refereeing further.

Goalkeeping Workshop: This will be a practical workshop delivered by Arsenal Ladies and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Emma Byrne.

Grounds and Natural Turf Improvement Programme: The aim of the Grounds and Natural Turf Improvement Programme is to improve the quality of natural turf sports pitches and training and education of volunteers and groundsmen/women.  The programme will give access to training, to technical knowledge, and support around funding.  This workshop will include both theoretical and practical demonstrations.

Respect Workshop: Former Premier League Assistant Referee Trevor Massey will be delivering the FA’s ‘Referee are you havin’ a laugh’ workshop, a tool aimed at supporting and educating clubs and leagues to improve the environment and experience for all involved in grassroots football.

Disability Workshop: How can you adapt your coaching sessions to make them more inclusive more people with disabilities?  What special requirements are needed for coaching disabled footballers?  Get guidance and ideas from this practical workshop.

The day will also include opportunities to talk to County FA staff about any areas you need support with.
