Soccer’s American Dream Unveiled At Soccerex Global Convention

Major Soccer League (MLS) Commissioner Don Garber has confirmed he will be speaking at this year’s Soccerex Global Convention, taking place on 6-10 September in Manchester.

Along with other senior figures working within MLS, Commissioner Garber will be revealing the secrets behind the leagues rise within the American sports industry which now comprises of 19 clubs, soccer-specific stadiums, higher average attendances than the NBA and NHL and product which is now returning a profit.

A key focus of the session will look at the new breed of team owners currently operating within MLS and how with four new franchises set to join the league in the next three years, including New York City FC and Orlando City SC; it has become one of the hottest footballing markets in the world. 

Soccerex CEO Duncan Revie commented: “Soccer has been completely revolutionised in the States since we hosted our event in Los Angeles way back in 1999, which coincided with Don being appointed Commissioner of the MLS a few months later. I’m looking forward to welcoming Don back to another Soccerex event for what will be one of the stand out sessions of the Convention.”

Garber joins a growing list of industry leaders who will be speaking at the Global Convention including four-time Olympic gold Medallist Michael Johnson, FIFA President Joseph Blatter, FIFA Vice-President Jim Boyce, British Olympic Association Chairman Lord Coe, RFU CEO Ian Ritchie and England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

The Convention kicks off with the Football Festival on 6-7th September, with the Conference starting on Monday 8th September. A packed international exhibition and a programme of networking and social events complete the schedule for what is widely acknowledged as the world’s leading football business event.
