‘Club Ambitions’ Drive Global Sports Conference Attendance

Thu 25th Sep 2014 | Football Industry Events

Leading performance analysis company Sportstec, have credited ‘club ambition’ as being one of the driving factors behind the success of their 'Global Sportstec Innovation Conference' that was recently held in London.

For the past 15 years Sportstec has led the way with innovative performance analysis thinking, working with clubs, teams and individuals worldwide to help them unlock the power of their sports data giving them greater insights into how to connect and engage their players, coaching staff and peers.

The 3 day conference explored the future of knowledge transfer from the leaders that are creating new paradigms, presenting insight into different approaches to old problems, delivering case studies from world respected organisations in the field and highlighting the convergence between technology and information.

Speaking about the success of this year’s conference, Nick Harrison, from Sportstec said: “This year’s conference was by far our most successful to date. Bringing together a record number of sports professionals from across the globe. This year’s conference not only provided a platform on which to meet and discuss ideas, but also gave us the opportunity to share our insight on trends and emerging technologies in the field of sport.”

Guest speakers across the four day event included Les Reed, Executive Director, Southampton Football Club, Trevor Dale – Managing Director, Atrainability, and Danny Kerry- Performance Director for England and Great Britain Hockey.

Tim Jenkins, Head of development analysis for Liverpool FC, attended the conference primarily to gain an insight into the new Sportstec product innovations and see how they were being used in a number of different environments.  “I think this is the big advantage of conferences like this as opposed to watching product demonstrations on the internet, as they provide both practical relevance and also an ideal platform to ask follow up questions with both analyst and Sportstec staff,” said Tim.

“On top of this, the opportunity to meet and interact with analysts from other sports was really useful.  The demands of the football season can mean that you become quite insular within the football community at times, with teams often all doing pretty similar things, and so having the chance to see demonstrations and chat with staff from other sports provided an excellent chance to review our own workflows and incorporate some best practice from other areas which we otherwise would not have been exposed to.”

Andy Blake, Senior First Team Performance Analyst, Leicester City FC, who also attended GSIC said: “As a club, we wanted our performance analysis department to be represented at the GSIC, owing to the variety of subjects to be covered by the guest speakers, and also the different backgrounds that the speakers represented. We also saw it as an excellent opportunity network with other delegates who, like ourselves, are looking to make best use of Sportstec software within their organisations.”

“2014 has been an incredible year for us here at Sportstec,” said Nick. “As we continue to grow, developing new technologies, our insight becomes more valuable. We feel it’s vital as a sector to continue to share knowledge, collaborate, and broker new opportunities across the field and hosting conferences like the GSIC allows us to bring together the sporting community to do just that.”
