The National Football Museum welcomed their one-millionth visitor yesterday (21st Oct 2014), a fantastic achievement in just over two years.
The museum, which opened in Manchester in July 2012, has trumped all expectations in terms of visitor numbers – welcoming its 100,000th visitor after just six weeks, 350,000 visitors after nine months, half a million in just over a year and now, an impressive one million people have walked through the turnstiles.
With a unique combination of rare football exhibits from all aspects of the sport, exciting state-of-the-art ‘have a go’ Football Plus+ games and interactives, and a programme of ever changing exhibitions the free museum has proven itself a huge draw with both fans and non-believers.
Museum director Kevin Moore said: We are absolutely delighted to have hit the one-million visitor mark in a little over two years.
“We are proud to be contributing so positively to Manchester’s economy; visitors are coming from across the globe and we will continue build on our success, as the most popular stand-alone sports museums in the world.”
Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure for Manchester City Council, said: "This milestone figure shows that Manchester is the ideal location for the National Football Museum.
“The museum is a welcome addition to the city centre's range of attractions, which appeals to everyone from the football fanatic to those with only a passing interest in the beautiful game. We look forward to the museum building on its achievements so far in the years ahead."
