Sam Rush Honoured At Football Business Awards

Fri 7th Nov 2014 | Football Industry Events

Football leaders from across the UK gathered in London for the annual Football Business Awards which saw Sam Rush walk away with the overall fcbusiness Football CEO of the Year award.

At a glittering awards ceremony held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium last night (6 Nov), Sam was chosen as overall winner from the five divisional winners by a panel at fcbusiness.

fcbusiness Editor, Jen O'Neill explained some of the factors that led to Sam's nomination, "Flying high in the Championship, Sam Rush has presided over a transformation in Derby County’s fortunes since taking on the role of CEO in January 2013.

"Reconnecting the fanbase, increasing season ticket numbers, steering a proficient and ambitious team of staff and helping to attract new investment to the club via a stadium naming rights deal are all keynote successes in enabling Rush's Derby County to become competitive on the field whilst ensuring financial rigour off it."

Hartlepool United's Russ Green picked up the League Two CEO of the Year award for the second year in a row.

Peter Kenyon was honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Football whilst Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton was given special recognition with a new award, Global Football Ambassador.

With competition tight, Notts County picked up the award for Best Club Marketing Campaign, Perform at St. George’s Park won Best Business Serving Football (up to £2m) and ADI took the prize for Best Business Serving Football (over £2m).

Chelsea FC celebrated picking up the Best Football Club Hospitality award with Manchester City taking the Best Match Day Experience award.

QPR’s media team celebrated their Best Fan Engagement by a Club award and Everton celebrated picking up the award for Best Football App.

Yal Bekar, fcbusiness Head of Partnerships said after the awards, “This has been another fantastic awards ceremony which has seen many individuals and companies receive the recognition they deserve.

“I’d also like to extend my congratulations to Sam Rush who was a popular choice not only with our panel, but also from his peers who voted him as divisional winner.

"For all the winners on the night these awards are well deserved and something they can all be proud of.”

Simon Burton, Director of the Football Business Awards, added, "Today business and football are strongly connected, with fans taking a vested interest in events off the pitch as well as on it.

"Football’s role within the UK is incredibly influential with the sport able to make a real difference in communities, whether social, charitable or educational.

"It is important therefore that the work football undertakes is inspirational and exceptional and the entrants into this year’s FBAs reflect that."
