Spreading The Everton Word In Finland

Fri 21st Nov 2014 | Money & Finance

Finland’s premier sports marketing and management school is set to become the latest benefactor to Everton in the Community after learning about the life-changing work carried out by the charity.

Everton’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Richard Kenyon, was invited to talk about the Club’s history, heritage and values at a two-day conference at Sport Business School in Helsinki.

As well as spreading the word about how the Club engages with its fan base, Richard explained about the remarkable work carried out by Everton’s official charity every single day.

And leaders at Sport Business School were so inspired that they offered to support the work of Everton in the Community so that they can continue to change lives for the better in Merseyside and beyond.

Vili Nurmi, Lecturer at Sport Business School, said: “It was a great honour to have one of the most well respected teams in sport represented at our conference. We have learned a lot from Richard that we can use in Finnish sport to help us move forward.

“Our delegates particularly enjoyed hearing about how important it is to stay connected with the local community and how sport can be used as force for good in society. Personally, as an Everton fan, I was also delighted that our delegates could hear more about why Everton is the best Club in the Premier League, and I can guarantee that there’s a few more Finnish Toffees over here now for sure!”

Kenyon said: “It was a pleasure to be invited over to speak to Finnish students and sport management and marketing professionals.

“Sport in Finland is really strong and has some great traditions - there are lots of things we have been able to learn from each other. It was fantastic to be able to tell some aspects of the Everton story to a new audience who now understand why Dixie Dean is the best striker that’s ever lived and how we earned the title of the People’s Club.”
