Surrey FA Launch Premier Provider Scheme

Wed 3rd Dec 2014 | Football Governance

With thousands of companies all over the country trying to cater for everything from basic ball skills to developing the next Messi, it can be difficult for clubs, parents and schools to know which coaching companies will best suit their needs.

A new accreditation scheme from the Surrey FA has been launched to help support and guide those who are looking for football provisions. The Premier Provide award assesses organisations against set criteria which aims to ensure football is enjoyed in a safe, fun and professional environment.

“Parents and schools alike have an almost overwhelming amount of choice when it comes to choosing their football provider and this Award gives the best, not necessarily the biggest companies, a badge of honour” said Surrey FA Football Development Officer Paul Cudmore.

“It’s a way of showcasing their commitment to providing professional, well-structured and, most importantly, safe opportunities to play football,” he added.

The Premier Provider award has three levels: 1 star, 2 star and 3 star with the majority of the criteria needing to be met in order to achieve the first tier of the award. To achieve a higher level, companies must have links to Charter Standard clubs and a commitment to staff development through CPD as well as continuing to ensure each coach at the organisation holds an FA coaching qualification, an FA Criminal Records Check and is First-Aid trained.

Pleiades Leisure was the first company in Surrey to achieve Premier Provider status. Pleiades Director Grant Woolger said: “It’s important to be associated with the Surrey FA and have people see we’re working to these best practice guidelines.

“Achieving the Premier Provider 3-star Award wasn’t a complicated process as we had lots of support from the Surrey FA to make it very simple and smooth, and the Award will have a really positive impact for us when looking to work with new schools and clubs,” he added.
