Rangers & Mike Ashley Charged By The SFA

Tue 16th Dec 2014 | Football Governance

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) have charged Rangers FC and Mike Ashley over his involvement at the club.

Ashley, the Sports Direct billionaire who owns English Premier League club Newcastle United, will appear before the SFA charged with a breach of Disciplinary Rules 1, 19 and 77.

Ashley owns less than the 10% permitted by the SFA but his involvement has steadily increased in recent weeks in the form of loans to the Glasgow club totaling £3m.

A stipulation of the loans was that Ashley could appoint two directors to the club board, one of which was former Newcastle United Managing Director, Derek Llambias, who was appointed as Non-executive Director.

The hearings, which will be held on the Tuesday, 27th January 2015, are the latest setback to the club after Manager, Ally McCoist announced he had tendered his resignation on Monday and will serve his 12 month notice period.
