West Ham In Advanced Talks With Potential New Sponsors

Mon 19th Jan 2015 | Football Sponsorship

West Ham United have confirmed they are in advanced discussions with potential new shirt sponsors following the news the current sponsor, Alpari had shut its UK operation due to problems caused by the Swiss National Bank’s change of monetary policy.

“The Club has received huge interest and is already in advanced discussions with potential new shirt sponsors for next year,” read a statement released by the club.

Despite the news of Alpari’s demise which was announced last week following the Swiss National Bank’s decision to reverse it’s monetary policy linking the Swiss Franc to the Euro, West Ham’s owners reiterated that the problems at Alpari would not affect the club’s finances.

“The Board would like to reassure supporters that Alpari (UK) Limited's situation will have no impact on West Ham United. The Club remains in a strong financial position and just last month published accounts showing record revenues and a group profit of £10.3m before tax.”

Today (19th January) also marks five years to the day since Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold took control of the club.

The pair took control of the debt-ridden club in January 2010 after selling their stake in Birmingham City to Carson Yeung, implementing a Ten-point pledge to address some of the club’s problems.

Summing up their time so far via the club’s website, Sullivan and Gold said, “We inherited a club that was riddled with debt, had little or no expectation from the management team, lacked strategy on and off the pitch and had no idea what the future held for it.

"Avoiding relegation seemed to be the limit of the Club's ambitions and with no plan to expand the Boleyn Ground, there was little prospect of improvement.”
