Fans Enjoy Roller Coaster FA Cup Ride Literally

With The FA Cup semi-finals taking place this weekend (Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April), four football fans’ road to Wembley looped through the Staffordshire hills as the latest FA Cup Adventure saw the iconic trophy travel to Alton Towers Resort.

Giving new meaning to the ‘roller coaster ride of the cup’, the trophy had a front seat view on the theme park’s main attraction, ‘The Smiler’. The cup was joined by fans of each of the teams competing in this weekend’s semi-finals, each hoping to have a smile on their face after their respective teams have played at Wembley.

Arsenal fan Max Benjamin, Reading supporter Richard Putterford, Liverpool season ticket holder Kelly Smith and Aston Villa stalwart John McLaughlin were selected from thousands of entries in a nationwide competition run by The Football Association, giving supporters the chance to experience their own FA Cup Adventure.

No stranger to the ups and downs of the tournament, this season the FA Cup trophy has journeyed to the icebergs of the South Pole, swum with sharks and flown in a helicopter. Now ahead of the semi-finals, the cup was thrust onto the ultimate 165 second adventure at Alton Towers.

Lucy Roberts-Hartley, marketing manager for The FA Cup said, "Having already taken The FA Cup on some unique adventures this season – including to the South Pole – the next adventure had to be something special. Fans often call The FA Cup a roller coaster of a competition, so where best to take the trophy next than Alton Towers.”

Liz West, PR manager at Alton Towers said, “Alton Towers Resort and The FA Cup are all about providing people with thrills and spills, and both definitely provide the ultimate roller coaster rides as well.”

Fans are being encouraged to capture their own FA Cup adventure throughout the remainder of the competition via Twitter & Facebook using the hashtag #FACupAdventure, for inclusion in an FA Cup 2014/15 Adventure Book. The book will include photography captured by multi-award winning adventure photographer, Martin Hartley.

Additionally, fans who provide content will be in with a chance to win prizes throughout the competition, including going on their own adventure at The FA Cup Final on 30 May. Entries for this competition can be made via The FA Cup Facebook page (Facebook.com/TheFACup).
