SGSA Appoints Interim Chief Executive

Sports Grounds Safety Authority has announced Rick Riding has been appointed as Interim Chief Executive.
Rick Riding will succeed Ruth Shaw on an interim basis as Chief Executive from 1 May. Ruth Shaw’s secondment from the Department for Culture Media and Sport comes to end this month, when she will return to Whitehall after leading the organisation for 4 years.
Rick Riding has been an Inspector at the SGSA for 7 years and has a career spanning 3 decades in spectator safety and building control. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is a well respected expert in sports grounds safety.
SGSA Chair Alan Coppin says “The appointment of Rick Riding as Interim Chief Executive will ensure it is business as usual at the SGSA.
“Rick’s knowledge and expertise in sports grounds safety, his understanding of the organisation and his passion for delivering a high quality service to clubs, local authorities and stakeholders will stand us in good stead during this transitional phase.”
Ruth Shaw says “Rick’s appointment as Interim Chief Executive is great news for the SGSA and for our partners. I’m confident that the organisation will continue to develop and deliver under his leadership.”
Rick Riding says “It is a great privilege to have been appointed as Interim Chief Executive of the SGSA.
“I am delighted to accept the position and will ensure the organisation continues to deliver the standards of service and trusted advice that is expected from it during this time.
“I look forward to working with all our customers in the coming months as we strive to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences at sports grounds for all.”
