Hampshire FA have announced a new partnership with Southampton Football Club for the Hampshire FA’s Girls Centre of Excellence for the 2015/16 season after being awarded a licence from The FA.
The existing programme will continue to be operated by Hampshire FA under the stewardship of former England U17 Women’s National Coach Lois Fidler, who is one of only four females in the Country to hold the UEFA Pro Licence.
As well as financial support, Southampton Football Club offer its expertise and knowledge to enhance what is already widely considered to be a leading, quality programme for talented young female players across Hampshire and the surrounding areas.
Hampshire FA Chief Executive Neil Cassar said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Southampton FC for the 2015/16 Season and there is no doubt that our Girls Centre of Excellence will benefit enormously from their involvement and support. Southampton FC possesses world-class facilities and staff and has a global reputation for developing talented young footballers and– we are sure that this can also be achieved in the female game."
Southampton Football Club's Executive Director of football, Les Reed added: "We’re delighted to re-engage with the female game and supporting Hampshire FA’s Girls Centre of Excellence is a fantastic starting point for our ambitions. As well as a financial commitment we aim to work with Lois Fidler and her team to add value to their existing programme with the sole purpose of supporting the development of the talented young players within the Centre.”
“Further support to the wider girls’ and women’s programme is currently being explored with our intentions to deliver a sustainable programme that can support the growth of the game at all levels.”
Hampshire FA Girls Centre Of Excellence is an integral part of the England Women’s Elite Talent Pathway, being one of 24 (nationally) FA licensed, quality assured, programmes providing player development opportunities for elite female players at U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s and U17s.
