Burnley Football Club’s royal fan base is growing!

Tue 8th Jun 2010 | Marketing & PR

Earlier this year, Prince Charles revealed his support for the Clarets, cementing his relationship with the club by paying a flying visit to Turf Moor as part of a visit to the town.

And now younger brother Prince Edward has revealed he too keeps a close eye on Burnley’s results from afar.

The Prince recently met up with Burnley FC Director Mr John Sullivan in London to celebrate the success of the club’s thriving Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

And he commented that as well as his brother, Charles, he avidly supported Burnley Football Club and was disappointed at the club’s relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

However, Prince Edward added that he was confident the club would bounce back and wished everyone at Turf Moor well for next season

The meeting heralded Burnley’s Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which has become the flagship scheme throughout football, with 81 other football club’s following suit.

The scheme has grown beyond all expectations and the first young people completing their Gold awards will soon visit London to receive their awards.

The Prince congratulated Mr Sullivan for his idea in bringing football into the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and said he was looking forward to meeting staff and participants in the near future at Buckingham Palace.
