West Bromwich Albion appoint new Finance Director

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the appointment of Peter Band as the Club’s new Finance Director.

The move sees Peter step up from his current role as Finance Officer which he has occupied for the last eight and a half years.

Albion’s board eventually opted for an “in-house” appointment after surveying 150 applications and interviewing 10 candidates since the post was first advertised in July.

“There was a huge interest in the position,” said the Club’s Chief Executive Mark Jenkins. “We interviewed some excellent candidates but ultimately decided the answer was already within the business.

“Peter is definitely qualified, well-respected and well-liked. His appointment offers a seamless progression and protects the succession plan of our business. 
“He has no intention of retiring and going forward will also play the key role in developing his successor.”

Peter, who is 68 and from Sutton Coldfield, is a qualified Chartered Accountant who worked in public practice for 14 years before progressing to become a Finance Director in industry for 24 years.

He first arrived at The Hawthorns a little more than eight years ago for what was intended to be a short, three-month consultancy. He has stayed ever since and is now relishing his new responsibilities.

“The club has got a very strong financial position and my role is to ensure we maintain that and try to improve it,” says Peter.

“This club has been around for 137 years and we all have to make sure it continues for at least another 137 years. We’ve got to be in a strong position to do that. The work appeals to me. I admire the way the club is run and enjoy working with the people involved. 

“Premier League revenues have consistently grown and as a club we cannot change them. 

“But we can look at our other revenue streams - tickets, our retail trade, hospitality, commercial and so on.  I believe I have some ideas that can help push things forward.”

Peter’s responsibilities will include all day-to-day financial aspects of the Club as well as recruiting a new management accountant who he will train and mentor to perform his former role.
