Huw Jenkins Wins Top Prize At Football Business Awards

Football executives from across the UK gathered in London for the annual Football Business Awards which saw Huw Jenkins walk away with the overall fcbusiness Football CEO of the Year award sponsored by TopTix Sport.

At a glittering awards ceremony held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium last night (5th Nov), Swansea City’s Chairman, Huw Jenkins was chosen as overall CEO of the Year from the five divisional winners by a panel at fcbusiness.

Explaining some of the factors that led to Huw's nomination, fcbusiness Editor, Aaron Gourley, said: "Swansea City FC are real tale of rags to riches and under Huw’s guidance they have gone from strength to strength.

"Huw was the outstanding candidate for this year’s highly prized award with Swansea once again showing progress both on and off the field, something that was noted by his peers who voted for him.

“With strong leadership and a clear vision they have made great progress no only on the pitch, which saw them finish 8th place in the Premier League last season, but also across the club's business functions.”

The annual Football Business Awards which celebrate the very best of football business saw Sir Trevor Brooking honoured with the Global Football Ambassador award.

With competition tight, West Ham United were winners of the award for Best Marketing of a Football Club, Designwerk won Best Business Serving Football (up to £2m) and, for the second year running, ADI took the prize for Best Business Serving Football (over £2m).

Chelsea FC celebrated picking up the award for Best Matchday Experience with Tottenham Hotspur taking the award for Best Non-matchday Use of a Venue.

Aston Villa walked away with the Best Fan Engagement by a Club award and Everton celebrated picking up the award for Best/Most Innovative Use of Technology.

Simon Burton, Director of the Football Business Awards, added, "Today business and football are strongly connected, with fans taking a vested interest in events off the pitch as well as on it.

"Football’s role within the UK is incredibly influential with the sport able to make a real difference in communities, whether social, charitable or educational.

"It is important therefore that the work football undertakes is inspirational and exceptional and the entrants into this year’s FBAs reflect that."

fcbusiness will feature a full review of the awards in December's issue (90).
